Wondering what your own wedding could be like at Stella Plantation?
Stella's Event Manager, Natasha, interviewed one of our most recent brides after her big day at Stella Plantation. Read along and see how Mary-Beth used Stella's beautiful and versatile property to create her dream wedding day!
What is your most memorable moment from your wedding night?
There were so many moments that combined made an amazing day, however the most memorable moment for us was the first look. The setting was a beautiful day with perfect fall weather under the shade of the row of live oak trees. All of the planning and worrying about details was done and then it was time to remember the entire reason for all of this. This moment was captured expertly by our photographers and Stella Plantation provides a perfect natural backdrop.
Everything was truly magnificent! However, I would have to say that our favorite piece of décor was the center chandelier surrounded by a box hedge with vines woven throughout the entire design and hung down creating a beautiful lit but green focal piece. Our goal was to have a theme of a romantic garden indoors. This piece was a center piece and a focal point for the entire design and perfectly captured our vision.
What was the theme and vision you were looking to incorporate?
The theme was to create a “secret garden” indoors. We wanted to seamlessly blend the natural beauty already present at Stella Plantation’s grounds and continue that natural beauty inside into the tent through the creative incorporation of lots of greenery and warm earth tones.
What was your one must have at your wedding?
I wish we could say that there was only one “must have,” but there were a few. To rope the “must haves” into a single theme, it was our desire to have our wedding day be a reflection of our personalities, meaning that it had to capture some traditional wedding elements, have a relaxed but classy atmosphere, and most importantly had to evolve into a fun and energetic party. Stella provided the perfect setting to accomplish all of this. From the sheer natural beauty the live oaks provided for our outdoor ceremony, to the rustic yet classy cocktail hour in the Carriage House, to the lively party in the Harold Pavilion. Stella allowed us to create our perfect wedding day!
Tell us about your different outfits and how you chose your dresses.
I chose my wedding dress from a very talented local designer here in New York, Jude Jowilson. The moment I put on the dress, I told my sister that I felt like a real woman in it. It just felt so right to me. I felt delicate, sexy, sophisticated, daring, and beautiful. All things I believe a woman should feel on her wedding day. I FaceTimed my mother, as she lives in Atlanta, to see me in the dress. We both cried and that was the moment I knew this dress was made for me. The amount of detail Jude had put into the dress and veil was absolute perfection. The dress screamed New Orleans to me. I don’t think I could have found a more perfect dress. I chose my after party dress from Rent the Runway. I wanted something out of the ordinary. It was a short black shift dress with multicolor sequins. I decided at last minute to take off the heels and throw on my converse. It fit my personality and let our guests know that now it’s time to let your hair down and party.
The draw to Stella for us was the vast property with an abundance of natural beauty and southern charm. We knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony in a setting that also captured the charm and hospitality of the south. We first met in New Orleans at a wedding on Bourbon Street. It was a fun and crazy celebration that included Carey getting slapped in the face by Mary Beth, but New Orleans has always been special to us, so we knew we wanted to return to the “scene of the crime” for our own wedding. However, the Bourbon Street setting didn’t fit our style or vision for what we wanted for our own wedding. Doing some research, we had identified a few potential locations, but once we visited Stella Plantation we knew we had found what we were looking for and needed to look no further. We ended up cancelling visits to other venues and booking Stella on the spot! The live oak trees provided that natural beauty that we sought. The buildings on site were all very tastefully done and fit perfectly into the natural setting. The main house was beautiful and elegantly decorated, the bridal suite was vast and provided a perfect sanctuary for the bride and bridesmaids, and the Cook House seemed specifically designed for the groom and groomsmen with a masculine, yet luxurious, design. It was so easy to picture the possibilities of what our wedding could be even on the first visit! And we loved the variety of options Stella Plantation gave us. There are multiple choices for outdoor ceremony locations whether it be multiple spots among the live oak trees, or the rustic Carriage House, and then multiple options for a reception from the large tented Harold Pavilion, to the rustic but newly constructed Sugar Cane House. Stella was able to incorporate everything that we wanted in order to deliver a perfect wedding day for us.

What is one piece of advice you would give to other soon the be brides and grooms?
Hire professionals to help you plan, especially if you are planning from out of town as we were. Weddings are a lot of work and can even seem like another full-time job. Don't take away from the excitement of being engaged and attempt to plan your own wedding without seeking proper assistance. There is a reason why wedding business is such a huge profession. Hire someone and leave the hard work to the professionals and we promise that you won't regret it.
