Myra & Hao | Charming Southern Wedding at Stella Plantation

Myra & Hao's engagement has to be one of the most epic proposals of all time! I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat during our first phone call as Myra replayed the details of how he took her on a surprise trip to Paris, yes Paris! Not only does Hao know how to sweep a woman off her feet but he can cook too! If you follow these two on social media, your mouth waters with envy at all of the yummy concoctions they create on a daily basis. So naturally these foodies would choose New Orleans (the food capital of the US, okay maybe just the South and I'm biased) as their wedding destination. Their wedding day was a combination of incredible food, surprise choreographed dances, heartfelt speeches and sweet Southern style!

How did you two meet?!

We first met in Paris in 2007, introduced by our friend Nadia. Hao was studying abroad that year and living in a cozy student apartment. But even on a student budget, he loved (and still loves) to cook for people. He made the best curry and the crispiest spring rolls to impress me. Not to mention, he took me around Paris! We were friends for over a year after that trip before making it official.

Tell us about the proposal!

One night we went to dinner with my sister and brother-in-law. In the middle of dinner, Hao went to the bathroom. But he never came back. When we asked the waitress to see if my boyfriend was still in the bathroom, she came back with a note. The note was from Hao and it said he had already left for the airport and that I had a first-class ticket leaving that same night! For Paris! I rushed frantically to grab my stuff and head to the airport. After a luxurious flight, limo pick-up, and custom spa day, I was led to an incredible Parisian ballroom where Hao was waiting to pop the question. UNFORGETTABLE.

What is the most memorable moment from the wedding day?

1. Seeing all of our favorite family and friends all in one place at our Welcome Dinner was such a happy feeling. Hao and I kept saying to each other, "This is so much fun!" and "We don't want this to end!" and then "Can we do this over again?" We are so lucky our friends and family traveled from near and far to join us.

2. Probably the 2nd song into the reception, just being totally out of breath having such a blast dancing with everyone. The DJ killed it.

What was the best part of the planning experience?

Tastings. Food tasting, cake tasting, wine tasting, any tasting you can get - and of course, having a very legitimate excuse to explore New Orleans.

What’s next for the new Mr. and Mrs.? What memories are you looking forward to together?

Traveling to more epic places, anniversary trip back to New Orleans and making babies.

From the Bride: "Stella is a such a gem! We are from out of town and did a lot of research on the perfect location for our wedding. The grounds are beautiful with all the oak trees and manicured lawns, and all of the indoor facilities are well-maintained and modern (which was hard to find in all the other 'charming' locations we looked at!). Though it was about 45 minutes outside the city, all of our guests found it well worth the ride when they walked through the oak trees to our ceremony! True southern beauty. Krystle, Caroline, and the entire staff made the planning, contracts and setup very easy and pleasant and their caterer was a hit too. I was confident in their ability to handle any situation the day-of and not involve me unless it was absolutely necessary - a trustworthy planning team is a must! Caroline even helped fix my bustle in a moment of need! All hands on deck :) I can't say enough good things about this place! I highly recommend Stella for any of your events; the grounds are a beautiful blank canvas for whatever style you want!"
