Gunning for a Cure 2016

February 27, 2016 was the perfect day to bring Dr. Oliver Sartor and all of his Gunning for a Cure supporters to Plaquemines Parish once again for our ongoing battle with Prostate Cancer. The beautiful 45 degree morning began at 8 with registration and coffee & donuts. Welcome remarks from Chalyn Perez and Dr. Sartor touched on the meaningful work that Gunning for a Cure is supporting.

At 9am, the fun really began as 41 - 4 person teams began their journey through a 15 station sporting clays course designed specifically for the event. Participants ranged in age from 8 to 80 and all were out there for the same purpose - to support a doctor who has dedicated his life to serving, treating and improving the lives of men who find themselves battling prostate cancer.

When the dust settled, some 4 hours later, 18,000 rounds of ammunition had been shot - while only some of these rounds broke the clay - all hit their target of showing support for Dr. Sartor and his team.

As the tournament concluded, lunch was served by 12 Seasons Catering and beverages provided by the Beer League were served by our lovely volunteers! Guests were also treated to a 3-Gun Raffle, pirogue raffle (donated by Paw Paw's Pirogues and signed by Phil Robertson of Duck Dynasty) as well as a large collection of live and silent auction items.

Families enjoyed the bouncy houses, demonstration from the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries, BB Gun competition, as well as the touch a truck display. Thanks to Plaquemines Parish Police Department and Fire Department for showing the kids how the police vehicles and fire trucks work! Air Boats, tractors, military vehicles and more were on site for families to explore.

The event raised $137,000 in funds to directly support the important research of Dr. Sartor.

We can't wait to see you all next year on February 11, 2017 - join us in our goal of raising $150,000 to break a record of $500,000 raised in 4 years!
